about climbing Mt.Fuji

  • This is my first time to climb Mt.Fuji

Practice climbing on a nearby mountain before attempting to climb Mt.Fuji. Many guidebooks and other publications describe Mt.Fuji as “beginner level,” but in reality it is “intermediate level. You walk for hours on end, no one will walk for you when you are tired. Mt.Fuji has an image of being a “familiar mountain” and a “tourist attraction,” but it is the tallest mountain in Japan. Mt.Fuji is beautiful and commercialized, but it is important to remember that climbing the mountain is always dangerous.

  • What do I start preparing?

Do your homework and prepare your equipment carefully.

As soon as you decide on a climbing date, make reservations at a mountain hut.

The closer to the summit, the more quickly the huts will be booked.

Inform your family and workplace of your plans in case something goes wrong.

It is not obligatory to submit a mountaineering plan, but it is safer to do so.

Please check the details by yourself.

  • Why are bullet climbs considered dangerous?

So-called “bullet mountaineering” refers to “continuing to climb a mountain without sufficient rest at a mountain hut or elsewhere.

Neglecting altitude acclimatization and climbing without rest can be fatal.

Plan to spend at least one night and two days on the mountain, or two nights and three days if you are not confident about your physical strength.

It is very dangerous to “plan to leave the base of the mountain when the sun begins to set and to climb all night long in order to see the sun rise at the top.

If something happens to you, no ambulance or medical staff will come immediately.

The mountain hut staffs will not pick you up, so everything is at your own risk.

  • Can I stay overnight on the trail?

You are not allowed to do so. In addition, bonfires are prohibited by law and must be avoided at all costs.

  • What type of clothing and equipment is appropriate?

    You should dress for mid-winter.

At Mt.Fuji, the temperature difference from the foot of the mountain is about 15°C.

Even in mid-summer, it is freezing cold at night.

Long-sleeved shirts and long pants are appropriate attire.

Don’t forget to bring another heavy jumper, a hat with a brim, heavy socks, gloves, and a change of clothes.

Please wear climbing shoes for your own safety.

  • How long to the summit?

It takes 7 hours from Seikanso to the summit.

Climb slowly as your body adjusts to the changes in oxygen and air pressure.

You should plan your climb with plenty of time to spare, as the trails are crowded these days due to the increasing number of climbers.

Climbing too quickly can cause altitude sickness.

Climb with the person whose pace is slowest.

There are benches in front of each hut where you can rest, so don’t forget to buy snacks at the hut and take a break.

  • What time does everyone depart Seikanso?

    There are 4 patterns.

    1. 10:00pm : to see the sunrise at the summit

    2. 2:00am : to see the sunrise while climbing at 8th station

    3. 4:00am : to see the sunrise while climbing at 7th station

    4. 8:00am : who has a reservation at the other hut upper than Seikanso on 2nd night

There are many climbers on the summit who are waiting for the sunrise to take their places, and you will most likely see the sunrise from between people’s heads.

That said, climbing to the summit hours before sunrise and waiting for the sunrise increases the risk of hypothermia. The nighttime cold is an order of magnitude colder.

Since the weather in the mountains is changeable to begin with, it may be better not to insist on seeing the sunrise at the summit, but to be lucky if you can see it.

  • What time will the sunrise come up?

    • Early July : 4:20am
    • Late July : 4:40am
    • Early August : 4:45am
    • Late August : 5:00am

Please check the details by yourself.

  • Why are prices so high in Mt.Fuji?

Because there is no infrastructure at Mt.Fuji.

Unlike a city with a well-developed infrastructure, prices are linked to higher prices because of the necessary expenses for everything.

There is no water, sewage, or electricity, so each lodge pays for everything at its own expense.

Each lodge carries water for cooking from the base of the mountain, purchasing propane gas for cooking, paying a cost to bring diesel fuel for the generator by a private company, and paying a cost to dispose manure and garbage in the bathrooms.

To begin with, we also pay the Fuji Subaru Line toll every time.

Each lodge arranges and pays for all of these things themselves.

It is a fact that corporate efforts have their limits, and we ask for your understanding and cooperation.

  • How do I arrive Seikanso?

Walking up from the foot of the mountain or walking the trail from the fifth station.

  • Do you provide a pick-up service?

We are sorry, we do not provide transportation services.

  • What “Fuji Subaru Line Private Car Restriction Period”?

It is the traffic regulation of Fuji Subaru Line.

During that period, only vehicles that have been issued a permit by the police station are allowed to pass.

No vehicles without a permit will be allowed to pass.

Please note that this is not “regulating the number of cars passing through.”

Please check the details by yourself.
